A little skillet logic

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Like a lot decent people I was appalled at McCain’s use of the phrase, “That one” to refer to Senator Obama. Of course, after reading about the racial slurs and calls to violence at the Pitbull Palin rally I’m not overly surprised to see McCain resorting to such a dehumanizing tactic. If there is any good news to be had from McCain’s behavior last night it is that behavior clearly showed how unfit he is to President of our great nation.

Another thing that bugged the heck out of me while watching the debate last night was McCain’s assurance that he knew how to fix the economy and would do so. Yes, he mentioned a couple of times that it would take both parties working together to fix the economic mess we are in. However, he seems to believe that he has the answer, and the ability to personally fix it. I don’t know about the rest of We The People, but I really don’t think any one man, or woman has the definitive answer to what it is going to take to fix this economic mess we are in. Nor do I believe any one man or woman can fix it. What I do believe is we need a strong President who is intelligent enough to understand this and present ideas of his own that will help fix it, as well as listening to the other people’s ideas concerning how to fix it. Obama has shown that he can be the strong clear headed President this country so desperately needs.

I am ecstatic Senator Obama kept his gracious cool last night and did not lower himself to McCain’s tacky standards. McCain came across as a feeble minded bigot who did everything he could to show his disdain and hatred for his opponent. Obama, on the other hand, showed everyone watching that debate what a brilliant and gracious gentleman he is. That is not to say he did not put McCain in his place on several occasions. However, the way he went about putting McCain in his place was beautiful to behold. More than ever before I am looking towards Obama as role model when it comes to dealing with people who make me want to smack them upside the head with a skillet. Perhaps in the future I will bake a batch of cornbread in that skillet, serve it smothered in butter and honey to those whose hearts are filled with hatred and bitterness, and whose brains are obviously lacking in food for thought. I doubt it will change anything within their hearts and brains, but it might keep their mouths busy for a moment, and give me a chance to graciously say what I want to. Once the skillet is empty, and I’ve had my say, I can always use it to gently whack them upside the head if absolutely necessary. ;)

Why Obama needs to stay positive

Monday, October 6th, 2008

I’ve been reading a lot of articles talking about how both candidates are going negative with their campaign ads. I think both are making a major mistake in doing so. I am particularly disappointed to see Senator Obama sinking to McCain’s level and focusing on trying to tear McCain’s character down, rather than speaking about the positive plans he has for this country. I’ve already read all about McCain’s involvement in the Keating affair. I know that according to what I’ve read McCain was less involved than the other four Senators were, but did describe that incident as the worst mistake of his life. I also know from reading several articles than Obama has no real connections to Bill Avery, and has denounced Avery’s radical past.

I wish both candidates would STFU about those incidents and stop the character assassination attempts. Hell, We The People have already seen all we want to about the incidents being brought up. We The People really don’t want to hear anymore more crap about what’s wrong with the other guy. What we are hungry for is information that tells us which candidate is truly right for the job of President. Obama has been doing a great job of convincing me he is the right man for that job. He has done that by staying focused on the issues that concern me, making it clear he understands those issues, and is just as concerned about them. He needs to continue doing that, and NOT go negative at this point.

I realize that each candidate is trying to appeal to voters who have not made up their minds yet as to who they feel is the right man for the job. But, Obama needs to understand that going too negative in his ad campaign, and at tomorrow’s debate could wind up backfiring on him. Obama needs to appeal to the undecided sector out there not with negativity, put rather with positive words that make it plain he has the best plan for this country.

The reason I have become such a firm supporter of Senator Obama is because I have been greatly impressed with the plans he has for this country, as well as his gracious nature and gentlemanly ways. If I could speak with him right now I would have this to say, “Please, Senator Obama, don’t let me down and sink to the same level as McCain and Palin have. Kindly keep in mind that a lot of us supporting you think you are good man who has the potential to become a great President. Don’t lose sight of that fact, or faith in yourself. Remain the gracious gentleman you are, and speak to us about the positive plans you have for this country. Our hearts are hungry for a positive change, make sure you feed that hunger. Do not allow yourself to be devoured by the beast of negativity that has become the driving force of McCain’s campaign.”

How to help end the war

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Being the old hippy that I am, I thought I might take a moment to pass along some advice to those of you who want to end this current war we are in. Before I do that though, I would like to state that I support my son and the rest of the troops 100%, just as I did in the damn Nam war that technically, wasn’t really a war, but that cost us so many brave young men and women. That doesn’t mean that I support the wars, or the politics or politicians who got us into either of those messes. However, after talking to my son, and even at times arguing with him about the politics of this war, I have come to the conclusion that despite the politics that got us into this mess, a lot of the men and women fighting this war, as well as those in places like Kuwait, are doing their very best to put the politics aside, and help as many of the common folk over there as they can. And yes, I know, a whole hell of a lot of those common folk are getting needlessly killed. That’s one reason we do need to end this damn war, and figure out a better way of helping those folks without needlessly killing so many of them.

I am also well aware that there are those over there right now who are committing atrocities that are morally, and criminally wrong. Of course, there are just as many, if not more civilians right here in America committing atrocities as well. Sadly, some people just like torturing and killing others, and let’s face it, if you are one of those people, a war can give you the opportunity to do that on a grand scale. However, to judge all our troops by the acts of those monsters, is just as morally wrong and atrocious as what they are doing.

So, if you really want to end the war and stuff, stop the atrocities, and bring our troops home, you have to get enough people on your side to scare the crap out of the politicians supporting said war. And if you want to stand a snow ball’s chance in hell of doing that, you need to get the parents of the young men and women fighting the damn war on your side. That’s why those who protested the Nam mess, and actually made a difference during those protests, weren’t the ones holding up signs that said shit like, “Baby Killers!” It was the people holding up signs that said, “Bring Our Troops Home!” that caught the eye, and moved the hearts of all those parents losing their sons and daughters in that mess.

So please, by all means, protest the hell out of this war! Scream all you want about the sorry ass politics and politicians that got us into it. And be sure and make a whole bunch of signs to wave around! Just make sure those signs are not going to alienate the very people who might can help you achieve your goal. You also need to remember that chances are, if you really do start making a difference, the politicians in charge who want this war are going to see to it that at times you are beaten over the head with those signs, and other blunt objects. My advice to those waving signs is wear a helmet! Body armor ain’t a bad idea either. After all, if the cops who are going to bust your head, and beat on other parts of your anatomy are smart enough to wear helmets and body armor, so should you.

Oh and while you are at it, if you are musically inclined, create some songs about the war that will reach out and touch others in a manner that will incite them to pick a sign that says, “Bring Our Troops Home!” Maybe if you can get enough people waving signs like that around, you help can bring an end to this war. But I’m here to tell you that making songs or waving signs that say crap like “Baby Killers!” and alienating the parents of those over there, isn’t going to do it. What that will do is play right into the hands of the politicians who want this war by making the people who want to end this war look worse than the politicians who started it.

No Sarah, this isn’t a Holy War!

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

After reading the story concerning Sarah Palin’s speech at the Assembly of God Church I cannot sit here and remain silent. I am the proud mother of a fine young man who has stood in harm’s way 5 times now supposedly fighting for among other things, religious freedom for us, and the people over there. It is appalling to me whenever any politician makes irresponsible statements that put the war in Iraq under the heading of God’s Mission.

Those fine young men and women, are NOT on any damn mission for the Christian God, or any other God or Goddess. They are standing in harm’s way because they joined whatever branch of the military they did to fight for things such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and other freedoms! They are patriotic young men and woman who believe that ALL people should be able to speak, and worship freely, without tyrants and politicians dictating what they can say, or what God, or Goddess they can worship. The politicians who keep spouting off about this war, or any other war being God’s Mission are doing those fine men and woman a great disservice by trying to make it appear they are fighting some Holy War sanctioned by the Christian God. May all of them doing this Rot In Hell for the disrespect they are showing the men and women who are putting their lives on line in the name of FREEDOM.

Freedom my friends, cannot be won through Holy Wars! It can ONLY be won when those fighting for it win the battle against tyranny and religious fanaticism. And yes, if Sarah Palin, George Bush, or any other politician tries to turn this into a Holy War sanctioned by their precious Christian God then they are no better than fanatics who caused so much death and destruction on 911! I implore those reading this to PLEASE make it plain to the politicians that We The People will not sanction ANY war that is a Holy War, be it one fought by Muslims, Christians, or any other religious section.

Pay no attention to the little girl in the booth

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

In the Wizard of Oz, it was the Wizard who was hiding in the booth. In the opening ceremonies of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it was the little girl actually singing, we were suppose to pay no attention to. Personally, I would love to kick the butts of the idiots who deemed the little girl whose voice actually sang their beloved “Ode to the Motherland” song not cute enough to be seen, so hard their noses bleed for the harm they have done to the self esteem of young girls everywhere. Dove’s Self Esteem Fund and the Girl Scouts Uniquely Me Program are going to have to work overtime now in their efforts to help young girls feel good about themselves after the effects of that disgraceful lip syncing fiasco. No, it isn’t just going to effect the self esteem of young girls in China. The message the Chinese officials sent when they cooked up that lip syncing fiasco will be read loud and clear by any young girl who hears or reads about it.

Basically, what the Chinese officials who cooked up that lip syncing fiasco are saying is, “We don’t care if you have the voice of an angel. Unless you are so cute the mere sight of you sends the warm and fuzzies coursing through people the moment they lay eyes on you, you are not fit to be seen, only heard. Now get in the booth, and sing like an angel.”

Well I have a message I would like to send to those Chinese officials, and anyone else who worships cuteness and beauty that much. Cuteness doesn’t last forever, but true talent always leaves its mark on the world. Beauty fades, but the glow true talent leaves behind even after the truly talented person is long dead, lives on for generations.
