Being the old hippy that I am, I thought I might take a moment to pass along some advice to those of you who want to end this current war we are in. Before I do that though, I would like to state that I support my son and the rest of the troops 100%, just as I did in the damn Nam war that technically, wasn’t really a war, but that cost us so many brave young men and women. That doesn’t mean that I support the wars, or the politics or politicians who got us into either of those messes. However, after talking to my son, and even at times arguing with him about the politics of this war, I have come to the conclusion that despite the politics that got us into this mess, a lot of the men and women fighting this war, as well as those in places like Kuwait, are doing their very best to put the politics aside, and help as many of the common folk over there as they can. And yes, I know, a whole hell of a lot of those common folk are getting needlessly killed. That’s one reason we do need to end this damn war, and figure out a better way of helping those folks without needlessly killing so many of them.

I am also well aware that there are those over there right now who are committing atrocities that are morally, and criminally wrong. Of course, there are just as many, if not more civilians right here in America committing atrocities as well. Sadly, some people just like torturing and killing others, and let’s face it, if you are one of those people, a war can give you the opportunity to do that on a grand scale. However, to judge all our troops by the acts of those monsters, is just as morally wrong and atrocious as what they are doing.

So, if you really want to end the war and stuff, stop the atrocities, and bring our troops home, you have to get enough people on your side to scare the crap out of the politicians supporting said war. And if you want to stand a snow ball’s chance in hell of doing that, you need to get the parents of the young men and women fighting the damn war on your side. That’s why those who protested the Nam mess, and actually made a difference during those protests, weren’t the ones holding up signs that said shit like, “Baby Killers!” It was the people holding up signs that said, “Bring Our Troops Home!” that caught the eye, and moved the hearts of all those parents losing their sons and daughters in that mess.

So please, by all means, protest the hell out of this war! Scream all you want about the sorry ass politics and politicians that got us into it. And be sure and make a whole bunch of signs to wave around! Just make sure those signs are not going to alienate the very people who might can help you achieve your goal. You also need to remember that chances are, if you really do start making a difference, the politicians in charge who want this war are going to see to it that at times you are beaten over the head with those signs, and other blunt objects. My advice to those waving signs is wear a helmet! Body armor ain’t a bad idea either. After all, if the cops who are going to bust your head, and beat on other parts of your anatomy are smart enough to wear helmets and body armor, so should you.

Oh and while you are at it, if you are musically inclined, create some songs about the war that will reach out and touch others in a manner that will incite them to pick a sign that says, “Bring Our Troops Home!” Maybe if you can get enough people waving signs like that around, you help can bring an end to this war. But I’m here to tell you that making songs or waving signs that say crap like “Baby Killers!” and alienating the parents of those over there, isn’t going to do it. What that will do is play right into the hands of the politicians who want this war by making the people who want to end this war look worse than the politicians who started it.
