February

Who needs a nail brush?

There are times now when my morning facial routine reminds me of that scene in Mommy Dearest with the nail brush and ice cubes. No, I haven’t actually resorted to using a nail brush and ice cubes. But, I do begin each day with a 10 minute cleansing routine that makes Joan Crawford’s look kind of sloppy. And thanks to the affordable line of skin care products at Cleopatra’s Choice, as well as a great thrice offered Gift Tote Giveaway, I am following that routine with a collection of Dead Sea products that would make Cleo herself faint with envy could she see them.

My morning cleansing routine begins with steaming my pores open with a warm washcloth, then gently washing my face and neck with a little round exfoliating pad and mineral moisturizing soap. After rinsing my face with warm water, things get a bit rough when I work my face and neck over with a mixture of oatmeal or apricot scrub and facial exfoliating salt. After another light warm water rinse, if it is not a mask day, things get really brisk with a final cold water rinse. Thanks to the fact the water lines out here aren’t buried quite as deep as they should be, adding ice cubes to the final cold water rinse would be a moot point right now.

After gently patting my face dry I apply a splash of toner. While my face is still damp from the toner, I begin the moisturizing routine by applying mineral lift serum over my entire face and neck. Next I apply the mineral eye gel, then a light coating of intensive anti-wrinkle cream at the corners of my eyes, around my mouth, and all over my neck. I finish off the moisturizing routine with a light coating of day mineral moisturizer with built in sunblock over my entire face and neck.

Because skin is at its oiliest at that time of day, I give my face and neck a light cotton pad and toner cleaning at around 4 p.m. each day, then apply another very light coat of day moisturizer. At night my face and neck are once more washed with mineral moisturizing soap, gently exfoliated again with apricot scrub, then cold rinsed and toned. I moisturize at night with mineral lift serum, eye gel, intensive anti-wrinkle cream, and finish up with a light coating of night cream.

When I began this rather fanatical facial care routine in October of 2008, my goal was to try and give myself a noticeably younger looking face by February of 2009. I’m happy to say I have reached that goal. In soft light, and with more makeup, this soon to be 51 year old face that now stares back at me from the mirror each morning could easily pass for that of 45 year old. And that’s going to be a great birthday present for me when I wake up on February 25th, and once more begin that daily routine.
