A strangely chaotic week.
This week has been strangely chaotic to say the very least. Part of that chaos is a result of my desire to revamp my Beyond Blonde web site. Those of you who arrived here via the Special Friends email link have discovered that the Weekly Fix is now in blog format.
Though getting that blog format up and running was not without its troublesome spots, it may turn out to be the easiest part of that desire to revamp my web site. Networks Hosting offers a couple of free add on programs that automatically installed a blog program on my site. After temporarily losing the index page to one of those programs, and spending about 30 minutes on the phone with tech support on the other one, I finally had a blog section up and running.
As if dealing with all that wasn’t enough, Sunday night we had a bad electrical storm that resulted in an hour long power outage, and zapped the new a/c unit we put in at the end of last summer. Larry called the a/c company Monday morning, and they said they would be out between 12:30 and 1:30. The service man arrived a little after 1:00 p.m. After thoroughly examining the a/c he determined it was a blown capacitor. Our 10 year warranty covered parts and labor on that, though we did agree to pay mileage for the service call since we live so far out.
Thursday we started having trouble with our online satellite connection. After giving them what I thought was a reasonable amount of time to get the problem fixed, I decided to call them. That’s when I discovered there no dial tone on the land line phone. Thank goodness for cell phones! And why is it even after you press the right number for, “No I am not getting a dial tone”, that idiotic voice asks you if you are calling from the phone you are reporting out of order? Hello! If you haven’t got a dial tone, you are not going to be calling from that number! By the time I had finished punching all the right buttons and reported my land line phone out of order, the problem with our satellite internet service seemed to have straightened out.
Friday morning my slumber was disturbed by the phone company calling to tell us they had finally repaired the cut line, and phone service was now restored. Later that day, my Cute FTP program took to crashing on the laptop and wiping out the serial number during the crash. Even downloading and installing a new program didn’t fix the problem. As if that wasn’t bad enough, damned if it didn’t start doing that on my iMac as well. A new upgraded version of an old favorite called Fetch has hopefully solved my FTP problems.
After finally getting my FTP problem solved, I decided to take a little break. That’s when I discovered we didn’t have any water pressure, or water at all for that matter. It was while talking to the woman at city hall about my lack of water I discovered a city employee had accidentally cut the phone line they had just gotten fixed. I thought about that for a few seconds, then said, “You reckon the phone company decided to get even for the cut phone phone line, and did something to the water line?”
The woman gasped and said, “Don’t even go there! As mad as they were about the phone line, anything is possible.”
Not long after I hung up the land line phone, I discovered the water was back on. As I sit here writing these words I am wondering what the hell could go wrong next?
